January 2001

Council Members - Congratulations! Our newly elected council members are: Jim Robinson, Bill Reider and Brian Louks. They join council members reelected for a second term, Pat Heath, Carmen Divers and Dave Schwab. These six people have terms through 2002. Other council members with terms through 2001 are: Bob Billheimer, Scott Smith, Caroline Brocato, Paul Tucker and newly appointed Dawn Meade, who replaces resigning Brian Bowman. The youth representative to the council is Greg Klimovitz. The council members were duly installed to their office the first Sunday in January. Congratulations to these new members and a special THANK YOU to our retiring and resigning council members for their years of hard work for our congregation!!

Souper Bowl - January 28th is Souper Bowl Sunday and youth from churches all across the country will be collecting a special offering to address hunger needs both locally and internationally. Last year, $3.1 million was collected and this year our high school youth will be participating once again. So remember to bring an extra dollar or two each to drop it in the soup kettle on your way out of church. The few dollars that you give up can mean a lot to some people in need. Thanks.

Carroll Lutheran School - The new school opened on Tuesday, September 5th with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and worship service. Over 75 people attended. The school currently has 36 children enrolled, evenly distributed over three classes: Kindergarten, Grade 1 and Grade 2/3. Come by and visit us or visit the Carroll Lutheran School online to learn more about this new Christian educational opportunity. They are located at www.qis.net/~clschool.

Summer Property Volunteers - On behalf of the Property Committee and the congregation, thank you to all members who volunteered their time this past spring, summer and fall to maintain the church grounds. The lawn maintenance and care of the flower beds was truly appreciated by all who attended our church. Thanks again. Also, welcome to Randy and Jackie Hilling, the new co-chairs of the Property Committee and a GREAT BIG THANK YOU to Bob Moczulski who is retiring as chairman of this committee after eight successful years.

Thought for January: A Prayer for the New Year
God of the years that lie behind us,
Lord of the years that stretch before,
Weaver of all the ties that bind us,
Keeper and King of the open door.
Grant us hope and courage glowing
White and pure as the stars above;
Grant us faith in a full stream flowing,
From the heights of Your eternal love.

Out of the ruins of doubt and sorrow,
Out of the aches and pain and tears,
Help us to fashion a new tomorrow,
Free from the anguish of blighting fears.

All through the seasons of sowing and reaping,
All through the harvest of song and tears,
Hold us close in your tender keeping,
O Maker of all New Years!
